Albuquerque’s SureStay Hotel will soon be renovated into efficiency and one-bedroom apartments. The City of Albuquerque finalized the purchase of the hotel it will convert into 100 units of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income households. The State of New Mexico contributed $3 million toward the project. The City will match the states contribution with Covid-related funding.
Once the project is complete, an on-site services coordinator will work on connecting future residents to resources. The project expands the City’s portfolio of affordable housing units by 20%. The project’s architect is Albuquerque-based SMPC Architects. Meanwhile, the request for proposal (RFP) for an on-call contractor closed last week and is now under review.
Construction is expected to begin next month and last six to nine months.
