The First Baptist Church of Highland Park and affordable housing developer Community Housing Initiative have received final land use approval to build a 137-unit all-affordable senior housing building in Landover, Maryland, reported by Washington Business Journal

The project, located on a ground-leased surface lot next to the church’s sanctuary, aims to address the need for affordable housing for seniors in the region. The building will consist of five stories and offer units with rent caps for households making up to 50% and 60% of the area median income.

The project is owned by Highland Senior Living LLLP, a joint venture between CHI and the church, and will receive financial support from the county government. Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2024, with completion targeted for 2025.
