The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has announced plans to rebuild the Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses campuses completely. Located at 441 W 26th St, the redevelopment cost is estimated to be over $1.5 billion

“Our administration has always put residents front and center in decision-making, and I am excited that the residents of Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses have seized their opportunity to plan their own future,” said Mayor Eric Adams.

Following a resident engagement effort, residents selected a plan that involves replacing all 2,055 existing NYCHA apartments with brand-new buildings, adding approximately 3,500 new mixed-income apartments, and enhancing community resources.

The redevelopment, overseen by NYCHA and Essence Development with co-development by Related Companies, aims to improve living conditions and address the growing backlog of repairs and maintenance in NYCHA developments. The plan is expected to provide modern, energy-efficient housing for existing residents and add new campus units.
